Koh Samui is located some 800Km South of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand. This gem of an island is 228sq.Km is size. Koh Samui dazzles visitors with its white sandy beaches, Swaying Coconut palm trees, Crystal Clear unpolluted Sea water, Waterfalls and beautiful Lagoons. It was only in the 90's that tourists started arriving in significant numbers. The environment is protected by law like the The Ang Thong Marine Park. There are many smaller surrounding Islands where Scuba Diving, Snorkeling and other Sea sports are available. The Island population is multi-ethnic due to its long maritime history. The cooking style is very spicy and there are lots of Curried dishes which makes it different from the rest of Thailand. The Samui Regatta is an International Sailing event held yearly with participants from all over the world.

The best times to visit the Island is from late January to September. The months of November and December experience heavy rains, Heavy seas and wind. To get to Koh Samui you have many choices. If via Bangkok you can take a bus or Train to the Coastal town of Surat Thani and then board a Ferry to the Island, or by Air which is served by small Propeller driven Aircraft. The other popular Choice is from Penang Island Malaysia where there are many daily bus and Van trips to Koh Samui. Firefly operates four flights a week direct to Koh Samui from Kuala Lumpur. The Flight time is 2 hours.
