Singapore Chinatown is an Historical Enclave of Chinese immigrants. Here you will get to see, explore, smell and savor a part of Singapore heritage. In this densely packed and stifling area with busy Hawker stalls and tiny shops selling all types of Food, Wares and services. You sometimes fell like in old town Shanghai. Enjoy an unforgettable shopping experience. You can shop for all manner of Chinese porcelain pottery, jewelry, trinkets, Chinese medicine. Old antiques are widely available here. There is a huge mix of Merchandise. Whichever shop or stall you drop by to buy, do bargain- I mean really BARGAIN- complete with walking away grumbling loudly about the high prices. Observe how the Locals do it, so you get a hang of the Bargaining experience. Try the Food here. Some of the best Chinese food is sold here, like the Fish ball noodles, Dim Sum or the Bacang-glutinous Rice in lotus leaves. Sometime between August to September ( Chinese Calendar 7th.month) every year there in the Month long Hungry Ghost Festival. You get to see street dramas performed on street stages at night.
While at Chinatown do catch a glimpse of difficult early life in Singapore at the The Chinatown Heritage Centre. The Chinatown Night Market and Bazaar is a wonderful way to spend an evening.
