Location Singapore is an Island City State located at the Southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia. It is about 699 Sq.km or roughly about 3.5 times the size of Washington DC. It is strategically located at the entrance of The Straits of Malacca, one of the world's most busiest shipping lanes.
History
The earliest known mention of this island is a Chinese account which describes this place as "Pu-Luo-chung" which means island at the end of the Peninsular. During the Sri-Vijaya Empire It was called Temasek. By the end of the 14th. Century the Sanskrit name "Singapura" (Lion-city) was widely used.
The British made it part of its colony since
1819. Stamford Raffles established a trading post at that time. It became an independent
city-state in 9th.August 1965.Today this Island nation of Singapore
has the highest per-capita GDP outside of Japan and one of the most prosperous nation
in the world. It is one of the main
financial centers in Asia, some describe it as the Cinderella of Asian
cities. The climate is primarily Tropical with seasonal Monsoon rains. Temperature is between 23C to 35C.
Getting there Almost all international airlines fly into Changi International airport. The Public transportation system is one of the most efficient in the world. The network of MRT ( Mass Rapid transit) trains, Buses and taxis are not only cheap and efficient but the drivers are also HONEST( you Don't get ripped off).
