Discover Penang Island Great Affordable and Safe Vacations Snake Temple Penang It is situated at Sungai Keluang, about 1.7 Km from the Bayan Lepas International Airport. It is only one of a kind in Malaysia. The Temple was built in 1850 by a Buddhist Monk Ven. Chor Soo Kong as a sanctuary for snakes. The species of snakes found here are the poisonous Pit Vipers. In addition you can also see Pythons. Visitors can take photos of the Vipers coiled around their necks. Despite the Sequels and screams from the visitors taking photos of them holding the snakes, no one has ever been bitten so far. A Celebration is held in honor of the Buddhist Monk Chor Soo Kong on the sixth day of the first Lunar Month. The Temple is of Traditional Chinese Architecture. The Temple is open from 0800 hrs till 1800hrs daily. Admission is free but donations are always welcome.
