Location
As a State is just over 685 sq. Km.
Malacca city is situated on the coast facing the Straits of Malacca.
About an Hours' drive from Kuala Lumpur or about 2 Hours from
Singapore. The City was
declared a world Heritage site in July 2008 in honor of its rich
historical background. Most of the Historical sites in the city can be
covered on foot. Malacca has a
unique population of Portuguese decedents settlers who speak Kristang a
version of Portuguese Creole. Their unique culture is reflected in
their dance and food. The Chinese and Indians too have their equivalent
as Baba/Nonyas and Chitty. Contact with Arab traders brought Islamic
influence. Interestingly
though the Baba/Nonya, Chitty and Portuguese descendents have resisted
the Islamic influence and still maintain their vibrant cultural and
religious practices
