Location

As a State is just over 685 sq. Km. Malacca city is situated on the coast facing the Straits of Malacca. About an Hours' drive from Kuala Lumpur or about 2 Hours from Singapore.
The City was declared a world Heritage site in July 2008 in honor of its rich historical background. Most of the Historical sites in the city can be covered on foot. Malacca has a unique population of Portuguese decedents settlers who speak Kristang a version of Portuguese Creole. Their unique culture is reflected in their dance and food. The Chinese and Indians too have their equivalent as Baba/Nonyas and Chitty. Contact with Arab traders brought Islamic influence. Interestingly though the Baba/Nonya, Chitty and Portuguese descendents have resisted the Islamic influence and still maintain their vibrant cultural and religious practices

Malacca Attractions:

Dutch Stadthuys

  • Stadthuys- one of the oldest and finest Dutch buildings in Asia built around 1660. Currently it houses a museum..

  • A'Farmosa- The gate entrance remnants of the city fort.

  • St-Paul's Church- ruins

  • Jonker and Heeren Street- the heart of Old Malacca- Myriad of shops and old homes.

  • Christ Church- Oldest Protestant Anglican Church still in use.

  • Baba and Nonya Peranakan museum.

  • Portuguese Settlement- at the Square there are folk dances every night. There is a wonderful selection of Cristang restaurants. Try an authentic old time Portuguese cuisines at San Pedro's.

  • St. John's Hill and Fort- on a hillock , vantage view of the city.

  • Chinese Temples- visit the  500 year old Cheng Ho Temple

  • Visit the Chitty Hindu temple - one of a kind that does not exist even in India.

Most of the City can be reached on foot. You can choose to ride the Gaily decorated Trishaws,
