Oktoberfest 2010 in Penang

Hi All,

On of the most sought after events the Oktoberfest will be celebrated at the Malaysian German Society in Penang. Date 23rd.October 7 pm onwards. The Society is located at 250B Jalan Air Itam, Penang. Oktoberfest is a 16 day event held each year from late September to Early October in Munich Germany. It is one of the most famous events in Germany celebrating the unique Bavarian Culture. More than 6 million people attend the event in Germany.Here in Penang it is unfortunately, a one day event and must not be missed. Great German food, dances and meeting up with old friends.Of course drinking beer by the Yard!. If you are in Penang- keep this date. See you there.

no-car Zone at the Esplanade and Lantern Bicycle Ride

Soon it will be a No-Car Zone around the Esplanade at Georgetown. Proposed times are from Morning till Afternoon starting with Sundays. This is an effort to make the environment healthier and also to promote a healthy activities. Walking and cycling will be encourages here. Without any motor vehicles it provides a safer place for the riders and pedestrians.

Last weekend there was a Lantern Bicycle Night Ride and Competition at the New World Park. The former amusement center is now renovated and turned into a hawker center. You can savor some of the Best delicacies on the Island at this place. The State government is mulling with the idea of cycling routes or dedicated Lanes for some parts of Georgetown.

Adenium Floral Show and Competition

To all flower lovers, the first ever Adenium Competition and Show in Malaysia will be held in Penang Botanical Garden

Date:6th June 2010 till 13th June;

Time 9am to 7pm.

Held In conjunction with school holidays, this is the best family outing to enjoy fresh air in botanic garden while appraising different species of adenium, especially the newly breed rose-alike adenium.

Penang Hill’s funicular train to stop for 7 months

The present system, which requires passengers to change trains at the middle station, will be replaced with a new system that takes passengers straight up the hill, non-stop.

It was also reported that the new coaches would be air-conditioned with a glass roof that allows travellers to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the hill.

The upgrading project was expected to be completed on Sept 28.

War memorials falling apart, in dire need of restoration

Several war memorials in the country established after the first and second world wars are in dire need of restoration.

Malayan Volunteers Group (MVG) secretary Rosemary Fell said they were particularly concerned about the World War 1 memorial in Kuala Selangor, which needed complete refurbishment.The MVG group was established in 2005, and to date has over 200 members worldwide.
